On behalf of our customer EUMETSAT, we are looking for a Data Access System Operations Engineer. You would be working on-site at EUMETSAT’s site in Darmstadt, with a generous distribution of working hours into the hybrid model.

As a member of the Data Access Services Operations (DASO) service team, you will be a part of a team supporting the operations of our customers mission-specific and multi-mission dissemination systems, including the dissemination of meteorological and climate products from their operational satellites.

Responsibilities

  • Support to the User community on EUMETCast hardware and software installations/issues
  • Create/manage technical and interface documentation
  • Data and system analysis
  • Operational performance monitoring and reporting, including the development, documentation and maintenance of the relevant tools for e.g. dissemination statistics generation and reporting and Multi Mission Data Access facilities monitoring and reporting
  • The development, testing and implementation of new configurations
  • Creation and maintenance of operational procedures and documentation
  • Creation of and delivery of training material to various audiences, for example from users through to engineers
  • Anomaly investigations
  • First line maintenance, including on-call support
  • Co-ordination with other service providers, external organisations and partners
  • Attendance and taking the minutes of technical meetings
  • Participation in formal reviews
    • Coordination of DASO scheduling and planning
    • Contribute to validation campaigns, and support operations build up and handover into to routine service
    • Take ownership of and become the expert on at least one of the Multi Mission Data Access facilities.

Profile

  • University degree or equivalent in an engineering or relevant scientific discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in software maintenance/development or the operation and maintenance of real-time, complex, 24/7 communications or command and control systems
  • At least 3 years’ demonstrated experience in software maintenance
  • At least 3 years’ experience of basic system administration i.e. configuration, installation, and Shell scripting for Linux and Windows
  • Demonstrated experience in major Linux distributions and Windows (Windows 10 or later) as a user
  • Computer analysis skills, including analysis of events and logs
  • Presentation skills and familiarity with Office 365, Teams and Confluence
  • Familiarity with the concepts of configuration control
  • Familiarity with issue tracking tools (e.g. JIRA)
  • Fluent in English
  • Able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, and is able to work under pressure with minimum supervision
  • All candidates must be eligible to work in EU

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with satellite system ground segment operations
  • Demonstrated experience in major Linux distributions and Windows (Windows 10 or later) as a user
