On behalf of our customer, the European Space Agency, we are on the lookout for a skilled a Senior UNIX Administrator. In this exciting role, you will have the opportunity to work directly at ESOC’s enchanting site in Darmstadt, serving as an essential pillar in our outstanding service to the European Space Agency.

This position has a key place in our excellent service of the European Space Agency. You would be a part of a team involved in system installation and configuration, working with HP hardware. Your mission would be to interface with 1st and 3rd line support, enabling uninterrupted operations of the software and hardware used.

Responsibilities

• Operating system installation and configuration.
• Diagnosis, reporting and correction of system software faults/user problems.
• Planning, preparation, testing and implementation of maintenance activities (such as patches and software upgrades).
• Interfacing with 1st and 3rd line support, along with other internal 2nd line support teams.
• Installation, testing and inventory of new software packages and releases.
• Application configuration/tuning.
• Auditing and accounting.
• Maintenance of in-house software/documentation.
• Performing extra support activities as requested, including working outside the normal working hours.
• Implementation, maintenance and operation of automatic software updates and OS installation.

Profile

• Strong Linux Administration (SLES/ RHEL) with good understanding of storage, networking, and scripting.
• Understanding of SAN concepts and networking concepts.
• Experience or knowledge of Hadoop administration.
• Basic database administration experience (MySQL/ MariaDB).
• Virtualisation environment experience such as ESX/ Vcloud Director and associated provisioning / life cycle management (Autoyast/ Kickstart).
• Experience with Solaris.
• Experience with Netbackup.
• Skilled in MS Office products.
• Strong command of English.
• Strong service ethics and customer facing skills.

All candidates must be eligible to work in the EU.

Nice to have:

• Experience with HP hardware.
• Experience or knowledge of Ansible.
• Experience or knowledge of Cendio ThinLinc and Apache Guacamole.
• Knowledge of German.
• ITIL Qualification.
