This is a permanent role directly with Satellite Applications Catapult. Whilst our standard working week is Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm, we welcome flexible working requests for this position.

We are based in Harwell with great public transport connections from all of Oxfordshire as well as London.

Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, our offices were temporarily closed. As per government guidance, we have opened our offices for limited number of staff to meet the needs of our employees. At the time of posting the advert we would encourage all employees to work remotely where possible but you would have the option to work in our offices in Harwell or Westcott.

Responsibilities

As part of the CTO team, you will work with a small team of engineers to develop satellite system and service concepts, undertaking system design trade-offs, creating simulations of system behaviour and analysing performance. You will form an integral part of project teams, working across industries and sectors on exciting novel technology concepts – the opportunity to apply yourself, your skills, passion and experience to support innovation and unlocking new and emerging technologies are limitless and we cannot wait to have you on board!

Profile

Successful applicants will have a relevant technology, science or engineering degree and are able to undertake design, modelling and simulation of satellite systems.

Ideally you will have experience in one (or more) of the following areas:

  • Communications system design
    • Physical layer and link layer, including understanding of coding and modulation, modem design, MIMO techniques, wireless propagation simulation and system performance modelling;
    • End-end network design, for broadcast or mobile packet data networks DVB, 3GPP, and IP routing and security architectures and protocol simulation and analysis;
  • Radar systems design
    • Waveform design, transmitter and receiver subsystem design, signal processing and target signature analysis, multi-static and MIMO techniques, SAR processing techniques
  • PNT systems design
    • Signal propagation analysis, receiver architectures and synchronisation algorithms and interference mitigation techniques.
